About

pdphoto1.jpgDavid Prince is the pastor of preaching and vision at the Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. He also serves as an adjunct instructor of Christian preaching at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and is in the process of completing a Ph.D. in preaching at Southern. David is a graduate of Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama where he also played baseball (1988-1991). He received his Master of Divinity from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas (1994-1997). Between college and seminary David served as a teacher and coached football and baseball at McAdory High School in Birmingham, Alabama.

In 1989 David abandoned his pursuit of self glorification and trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. A short time after his conversion he began to sense a call to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. During this a time David became a member of Morningview Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama which called Greg Belser to become its preaching pastor (Belser now serves Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Jackson, MS). Belser’s commitment to straightforward expository preaching poured fuel on a fire that was burning in David’s heart to preach the gospel. In 1994, the call became irresistible and David surrendered to preach and was licensed to preach the gospel by Green Valley Baptist Church in Hoover, Alabama under the ministry of Thom Rainer (Rainer now serves as the CEO of Lifeway).

After serving churches in Texas and Alabama, David accepted a call in 2003 to become the senior pastor of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. The central labor and passion of David’s life and ministry is preaching Christ. He is committed to Christ-centered, Kingdom-focused, expository preaching. His goal is to treasure Christpd-action.jpg together with the community of believers at Ashland Avenue and to declare His supremacy in all things to the ends of the earth. Sound Words exists to proclaim Christ seeking to present everyone mature in Him (Col. 1:28; 2 Tim. 1:13).David says the second greatest day of his life is the day he married Judi (The first is the day he trusted Jesus). They have been married since 1992 and God has blessed them with a gloriously full quiver of six children. The three oldest are boys; Luke, Will, and Jonathan. The three youngest are girls; Lydia Grace, Susannah Faith, and Sarah Hope.
