“This was the Lord’s doing?” Revolution by Death Mark 12:1-2

cross.jpgWhat drove men to crucify God’s own Son?  What caused the anger, the resentment, and the plotting against God’s King?  You must be thinking of some earth-shattering reason.  No one scowled at Jesus on the cross and accused him of making them feel too comfortable.  But don’t we make Jesus out to be a comfortable savior when we treat him as less than a radical revolutionary?  In Mark 12:1-12, we find that God did not send his Son into the world as one religious option for an improved life.  Instead, Christ stands as God’s final Word of salvation to a lost world.  Listen as Pastor David pleads for us to see Jesus as God’s Savior-King who conquered death on a blood-spattered cross.

War in the Kingdom of Christ: What Every Revolutionary Must Fight Mark 9:43-50

Do you manage your sin well? Perhaps you envy what others have, but you keep those feelings out of plain sight. Maybe you struggle with lust, but you never tell crude jokes at work. In Mark 9:43-50, Jesus challenges us to view the fight against sin as a deadly battle, not a harmless flirtation. In fact, our unwillingness to put sin to death is nothing short of prideful rebellion against the Kingdom of Christ. Listen as Pastor David challenges us to offer our lives sacrificially in the service of King Jesus.

The Presence of the Uncomfortable King Mark 3:22-27

What do you think about when you hear the word “revolution” mentioned? You might point to the American Revolution or the toppling of a modern dictatorship. Would you think to say Christianity? The answer has everything to do with your relationship to Christ. If you think of Jesus as nothing more than a quotable proponent of middle-class morality, you’re missing out on something greater. In Mark 3:22-27, Pastor David explains how Jesus is a radical revolutionary, calling men and women to join him in his victory campaign over the ruler of this age. Listen as Pastor David calls us to join the revolution by following King Jesus with our whole life.

When It Feels Like God Does Not Care: The Power of Small Steps of Faith I Samuel 1:13-28

Sometimes life is hard. Parents lose young children. Fathers are diagnosed with terminal cancer. How do you respond to tragedy and depression? What do you believe about God when life hurts? We tend to look for profound and dynamic solutions to life’s problems. Surely God gives a better answer than “trust and pray.” After all, simple answers may work for children but not in the real world. In I Samuel 1:13-28, Pastor David asks us to see that sometimes small steps of faith can be the most profound answer to life’s hurts. Listen as Pastor David proclaims that God is in control and cares enough to send His own Son to save helpless, hurting sinners.
