Intentional Christian Living: Are you smarter than an ox?

ox.jpg

The fact that the book of Wisdom devotes a great portion to warn its readers to avoid sexual immorality ought to immediately arrest our attention. The voice of folly constantly beckons us in that direction. What is at stake in whether or not you commit sexual immorality? We immediately think about the loss of reputation, education, job, or carreer. Often our concern about sexual immorality has more to do with avoiding personal risks than it does with the fact that God has given marriage and sex to magnify the gospel of Jesus Christ. Listen as pastor David continues his series in Proverbs talking about love, marriage, and the wisdom of Christ by asking “Are You Smarter than an Ox?”

Intentional Christian Living: Are your walls crumbling?

tantrum-kids.jpgIf a teacher sent a note home with a child that said, ”Little Johnny was caught lying today” or “. . . was caught stealing today,” most parents would be rightly troubled and grieved. But if the note home from the teacher said, “Little Johnny was not displaying self-control today” many parents would be far less upset. Why?Jerry Bridges calls lack of self-control one of those sins we consider a respectable sin in our culture. In fact, we often rename this sin in our children. The child that talks too much is just talkative and outgoing. The child that will not speak when spoken to is simply shy. The child that throws his bat when he strikes out is just competitive. But this is not just a problem with our children is it? We all tend to minimize our self-control problems in our own lives and excuse them. But the voice of wisdom (Christ) in the Proverbs paints a much bleaker and desperate picture for the one who lacks self-control. Listen as Pastor David examines this issue from the Proverbs.

Have you ever been rebuked by an ant? Proverbs 6:6-11

ant1.jpg

Have you ever heard the voice of Jesus speak from an ant hill?  If so, He may have told you to get out of bed and get a job.  Or maybe He told you to get off the internet and finish the assignment your boss gave you to do two weeks ago.  While no one likes to think they are guilty of laziness,  with the wisdom of Christ, the ant says something different to all of us.  Whether its your work at home, school, or in the business world, Jesus calls for the same sort of aggressive diligence we see in the life of an ant.  Join Pastor David, in chapter 6:6-11, as he continues a study through the book of Proverbs.
